Hey! You've arrived at the personal site of one Lorelei. Human beings really love to talk about themselves and I'm really no different, so this site exists so that all of the visitors of my network can learn a bit (okay ... maybe more than a bit) about the crazy person behind the sites. I'm sure all of you have seen/read at least one other personal site in your internet travels, so I don't think I have to go into much more detail than that. Anyway, enjoy! ♥

getting this basic stuff out of the way
As I've said, my name is Lorelei. That's actually a name of my own choosing because my legal first name is something my grandmother picked and it's more or less impossible for non-Vietnamese people to pronounce correctly. But Lorelei (or Lore, for short) is more than just an internet handle--I use it in real life, too, so. I am roughly 5'7" in height, which is 170 cm if you want to go metric. I was born on August 19, 1989, which makes me almost-but-not-quite 21 years old. I have the same birthday as Bill Clinton. WHOOPEE!! <-- this is sarcasm. I'm of Vietnamese descent; my parents were refugees from Vietnam that came to America during the Vietnam War to escape persecution from the Communists. I'm very proud of my heritage and in fact, Vietnamese was my first language, but I'm also a very proud Texan. I was born in the capital, Austin, and I live in the Dallas area now. I've been in Texas all my life and I love it here. ♥ I think that just about covers the basics. :D

school, work, the not-so-fun stuff :c
I've always been pretty interested in science. I pretty much only watch the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and PBS, so I've grown up with a keen interest in astronomy and biological sciences. I took an AP Psychology course when I was in high school and loved it, so now that I'm attending university, I'm going for a neuroscience/psychology major. It's pretty tough at times to keep up with all the lab reports and essays, but I don't regret it. I'm pretty big on mathematics, as well. I was a few years ahead in math when I was in high school and I really like solving algebraic equations, haha. My best subjects in school, however, were history and English. (I particularly love European history, specifically around the Renaissance time period) I'm a huge fan of Shakespeare. Ironically, I never have to take an English course ever again since I have AP credits, and that makes me a little sad sometimes. I guess I'm kind of an all-rounder as far as education goes because I'm not someone who loves English and hates math or vice versa. But while I have a general interest in learning, I'm also really lazy, and those two traits constantly conflict.
All of the jobs I've ever had have revolved around tutoring. I started out working for Kaplan as a private SAT tutor, and now I'm more or less working for the government to provide free tutoring for kids who need help passing the high school exit exams. I've never had a minimum-wage job and I don't think I really know what suffering is, lol. I'll admit that while my life isn't perfect, I've had a pretty kushy time so far.

the things I love and why I love them
As you might have gathered, I am primarily a huge fan of anime/manga and videogames. I particularly like shoujo manga, but I have a soft spot for the horror and historical genres, as well. I tend to read manga more than watch anime for various reasons and will basically read anything as long as it's interesting. My favorite manga series is Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, closely followed by Hunter x Hunter, Ouran Koukou Host Club, and Skip Beat!
As far as videogames go, I tend to play mostly Japanese RPGs. I've played almost all of the Final Fantasy games, I'm a huge fan of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and I absolutely adore Lunar and Arc the Lad. I've just started playing the "Atelier" games, starting with Mana Khemia, and have found that I really like item synthesis, so I'm kind of obsessed with that genre at the moment, though I can't seem to put my Pokemon Soul Silver game down, either. (warning: I am an extremely nerdy/hardcore pokemon trainer that spends hours and hours EV training and breeding) I tend to prefer games that require strategy compared to the kinds of games where you just button-mash your way to victory, but I am fond of fighting games such as Dead or Alive, BlazBlue, and Tekken. I'm generally not a huge fan of FPS games or the more realistic types of American-made games, but I do really like Mass Effect, Portal, and Fable. It's kind of crazy how long this paragraph is compared to the previous if you consider that I read manga way more than I play games. Oh yeah, I should also note that I've started playing otome games, which are basically like dating simulations, though I play them more to see what happens in the story and how the characters interact than to pretend that I'm ~dating the guys~.
I listen to all kinds of music. There's basically no genre that I don't listen to at least a little bit of (except reggae, maybe? though I don't really DISLIKE it, per se). I really love classical music, as well as instrumental pieces composed by Joe Hisaishi, Yiruma, Fan Gong, and Nobuo Uematsu. I have every single Studio Ghibli soundtrack and I listen to them quite a lot. I also listen to a lot of Japanese and Korean pop music, and western rock music. I ♥ the Foo Fighters. I'm also probably the biggest Tackey&Tsubasa fangirl on the planet and I wish they'd release some new stuff, but alas. ):

i'm in the business of misery
I started making shrines in 2002 or 2003 and my very first shrine was a really crappy one called Willow, dedicated to Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, that you can still find if you look on the Internet Archives. Like seriously, the shrine was 500 words in total, tops. A far cry from the ridiculously tl;dr shrines I make today! I didn't develop my current shrine-making style until I got my Blizzaga.org domain and made my Kyoya shrine. That was about when I got more serious about the whole shrine-making thing and after I got my current domain, I started making more of them until my network is what you see now. I like to think that I make my shrines for myself, so I only leave up sites that I'm personally proud of and happy with. I really love my network and I hope that all of my visitors, past and present, enjoy the shrines as much as I enjoyed making them. :3

I don't even know what version this layout is, but I don't really update this subdomain much so it's probably still somewhere in the single-digits. It looks pretty terrible in most all resolutions because I couldn't be bothered to get the background to repeat properly, lol. BLAME SCHOOL. The background pattern was made by Chamberten and the art used was commissioned by me from my friend Shirogane so I'm obviously allowed to use it. If you're curious, it's art of a gijinka version of Butterfree. This one in particular is rather tsundere shota Butterfree named Ephram and he has a sad, star-crossed relationship with Azra, a Beedrill. :c
I hope you've learned some stuff about me and that I haven't completely scared everybody off with my eccentricities. |D Thanks for visiting!
